Laughing Moms MOTY mother's day pic

“By Looking at this beautiful woman, with these two darling kids you’d never know the heartache and trials she has endured as a young Mom. Both of the sweet children have epilepsy. She’s held these little body’s in her arms for years as they shook, and cried. All the while keeping herself together as she went through a painful divorce.”

“[She] is one of those beautiful spirits who can joke through hard times, and hold your hand and have empathy for you as a friend. She became someone special to me when I married her children’s Father. She had every opportunity to be unkind to me, and she chose to open arm me.”

“She works a full time job in a CEO capacity of her building. Then she comes home and helps cook, clean, sew, can jams, jellies and meats, and if that’s not enough she has time to play with the kids before helping tuck them into bed.”

“It has been a physical/emotional roller coaster for our family over the past several years, but I would not trade being a mommy for anything in the world. I would do ANYTHING for my kids, including almost dying 3 times! … I would love the opportunity to share our story with other mommies and give them hope. No matter what the doctors tell you, our God is greater and can do the impossible.”

“My mom spent at least 3-4 nights a week at my house during the first 2 months of the twins’ lives, often showing up at 10pm after she put my 93 year old grandmother and 91 year old great aunt to bed (they both live with her & my dad).  She then spent most of those nights sitting awake on my couch holding a fussing baby.  She would change one while I breastfed the other.  As soon as I was done nursing she’d take whichever baby was still awake so that I could go right back to sleep.  She’d watch Charlie & Andy so I could take Jack to his doctor visits.  She’d drive me to Jack’s DOC band appointments so I could sleep in the car.  She takes Charlie to alleviate some of the chaos.  She invites us to her house for dinner and then holds a baby so we can actually try to sit and eat.  She folds our clothes and does our dishes.  She takes a twin or two so I can go to the grocery store or take a shower.  She buys clothes for our kids because I don’t have time to shop.  She shows up on my doorstep ready to help whenever I call. She is amazing and she is how I survived this year.”

“I think I deserve mom of the year because when I became pregnant with my son… I don’t think anyone would consider me even possibly being fit to be a mom. I was drinking & going to the bars all the time. I pulled my sh*t together and now my son is my #1 priority, there isn’t a thing that I would not do to ensure his health and safety in this world. I had to drop out of college after he was born, but I am doing online courses now to get my certification to be an Early Childhood Educator & I started a home business so that I can be home with him & still provide an income for my family.”

“From the start my little sis has been a go getter type of person. She has big dreams and a big heart. While in college she surprisingly ended up pregnant,  but that was just a blessing. She stayed focused and worked a full time job while attending college and after my godson was born she went back to college and got her degree! She applies herself 100% she gives all her love to her son, she juggles work, and school, while being a full time mommy.”

“[My sister] is a single mom of two girls.  [She] lives in Indiana with no family around to help her.  She has a giant list of fancy medical terms that make it near impossible to get out of bed in the morning, but somehow she does it!! She has been going to school for 10+ years trying to get her degree, but her injuries keep getting in the way.  She finally landed her dream job in January teaching inner city kids and their parents to read together as families.”

“[My sister] is just 18 months younger than me, but sometimes I wonder if she’s not the older one!  She has 3 children. When her oldest was two, she was diagnosed with autism. It was a huge blow for their whole family, but my sister chose to face it head on with an amazing attitude of strength and positivity. With all the therapy and help she could provide, her daughter has thrived. And she amazes me with the equal amount of attention she provides each of her children. They are so different from one another and I love that she knows that and recognizes parenting isn’t a “one size fits all” approach. She is an incredible example to me of how to have strength during difficult situations and make the absolute most out life. She makes no excuses for herself and holds herself to high standard without any concern for what others think of her or comparing her life to someone else’s. She’s her own person and is happy with herself.  I can learn a lot from her.”

Music Mondays! May the Fourth Be With You!!

Music Mondays May the Fourth

In honor of Star Wars Day, we are sharing songs with some relation to stars or space or Star Wars today!

Angels On The Moon by Thriving Ivory

This is an older song, but not super well known.  It should be, however, as the lyrics are really beautiful.

Never Had by Oscar Isaac

I have to include one of my all time favorite songs, and before you think it doesn’t have anything to do with May the 4th, my dear friend Oscar Isaac who wrote and performs this song, is in the new Star Wars movie!!!  He’s the pilot in all the new trailers.  I’m so excited for him to be a part of such an amazing film and I’m so excited to share this gorgeous song with you all.  It’s not an official video, but it still lets you hear the song.

A Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay

We adore Coldplay and also thought about sharing a throwback to their song Yellow but figured most people on the planet have already heard and love that song 🙂 Same goes for Champagne Supernova by Oasis. Then we remembered lots of other awesome songs that you’ve probably already heard, but they’re fun to share for Star Wars Day! So, here’s a little list of those as well, in no particular order:

Intergalactic by Beastie Boys

Counting Stars by One Republic

Shooting the Moon by Ok Go

Fade Into You by Mazzy Star

What are some of your favorite celestial themed songs or songs by artists with starry names??  Share in the comments below and May the Fourth Be With You!!

xx Alisha

Music Mondays!!

Hey y’all!! Did you know that friday was National Sibling Day?? Was your Facebook home page saturated with posts and embarrassing pictures circa 1985 of your friends and their siblings professing that they have the BEST brothers and sisters ever?? Yeah, mine too. But, I hate to break it to you. I really do have the best brothers and sisters.

Here’s a little known fact about me: I’m the oldest of 10. I come from blended families, which has turned out to be one my greatest blessings. My brothers are hardworking, intelligent, amazingly funny guys. And my sisters are insanely creative, cultured and rockstar moms.

11102929_1396524433999007_2504484053249124935_n

I also have to make a shout out to all of my in-laws!! My siblings have married GREAT people who only add to the pot and make our family better. My husband has wonderful siblings and spouses that I’m just crazy about. Having so many siblings creates the coolest diversity and gives you access to crazy talented folks. Adventures and shenanigans GALORE!!!

Shared bedrooms and bathrooms fashion bonds that are of the strongest and truest variety. Having that built in network of support is invaluable. If you think about it, the sibling relationship is the only relationship that you will have for your entire life! My brothers and sisters and I all have a deep love of music. Singing together is one of my favorite things to do. The music industry is filled with family acts. Laughing Moms Music Mondays Sibling Bands

 Here’s a few:

The Jackson 5
The Osmonds
The Bangles
The Bee Jee’s
The Beach Boys
The Jetts
The Ramones
The Avett Brothers
Oasis
Radiohead
Arcade Fire
Kings of Leon
Here are a few more that are some of my personal favorites…..

First is The Broods. They’re a brother and sister hailing from New Zealand. Who doesn’t love anything from New Zealand? My sister-in-law, who has great taste in music, introduced me to them. She also takes really good care of my brother and makes him completely happy, so she’s totally IN!!!

Next we have the sister act, HAIM. They are the coolest thing to come up out of the Indie circuit. They have this throw back sound that I dig. Plus, they’re BFF’s with Taylor Swift, which you know how much we love her round these parts. (Check out our parody to Taylor’s song “Style” here!)

Last, I give you the iconic sibling duo The Carpenters. This song is so perfect for today for so many reasons. First, it’s Monday. Second, it’s raining here in Houston. And third, my moms LOVES The Carpenters. So, in honor of the gal who gave me my siblings, this one’s for you momma!!

Did any of these blow your mind?? I hope so. Now go call your brothers and sisters and tell them how much you love them.
xx

Music Monday!

We’re finally getting Music Monday up on a Monday! WooHoo!

Music Monday April Showers

April showers bring May flowers! So, let’s celebrate the rain today!

I Love The Rain The Most by Joe Purdy

If you’ve not yet discovered Joe Purdy, do yourself a favor and search him on YouTube.  This song is on my bedtime playlist.  Super mellow, just like a rainy day.

Purple Rain cover by Adam Levine

I loved this song by Prince in the 80s.  I wanted to ride a motorcycle in the purple rain.  Or do anything in purple rain.  It sounded awesome.  There aren’t many covers of Prince songs, because Prince has such a unique and difficult vocal style.  This cover does a great job, I think.  So thank you, Adam Levine, for making it Purple Rain!

Why Does It Always Rain On Me? by Travis

I fell in love with Travis when I lived in London many years ago.  Don’t worry, my husband’s okay with it.  Even though this song is pretty old now, it still sounds current.  Check it out!

Send us your favorite song discoveries.  Maybe they’ll make it onto one of our Music Mondays!

Tuesday Treasures!

Please welcome our guest treasure hunter, Chelsea Price!  For today’s Tuesday Treasures, we will enjoy the transformation of Chelsea’s gorgeous little antique chair!
 IMG_0824 IMG_0828
I love to antique shop, so when my husband and I found this super quaint shop in Groveton, Tx, I was in heaven. I found this chair right away for a steal of a deal. It was pretty rough, a little shredded in places and wobbly in others. But it was solid wood so I knew it had great potential. I brought it home and let it sit for months as I tried to decide if I should stain it or paint it white. I really like the clean-cut look so I went with white. (I know you natural wood lovers are going to kill me, but it was a choice I had to make.) So, now with the decision made I took it out to the garage and started sanding.

Music Mondays!!

I LOVE SPRING!!!! Spring in Texas is glorious, even if March is our bipolar month. One day its 80 degrees and the next we have snow!! Never a dull moment!! For this week’s Music Monday, I wanted to celebrate this lovely season with “An Ode to Spring”!! These songs make me think of blossoms, perfect starry nights and the possibilities of love!

First up is “Bloom” by Paper Kites. Both band name and song title make me want to run through a meadow wearing a crown of flowers in my hair! Doesn’t that sound dreamy??!!
Next, I have a love song about two people who have known each other for all their lives and have discovered that they’re in love!! What could be more awesome than that?. It’s called “Something Right” by Chelsea Lankes ft. Will Anderson of Parachute. It’s completely romantic in every way. Listen to it and I dare you not to have it on repeat.
Last, I have to have an Echosmith song. We LOVE Echosmith here at Lauging Moms! (check our parody of “Cool Kids”, entitled “Cool Moms” here!) This song is chalk full of astronomy references that have me dying to grab a blanket and go sparkin’ with my sweetheart under a starlit sky!

So there you have it folks!! I’m just a hopeless romantic who sees love every where! However spring makes you feel, I hope it finds you enjoying the simplicity and magic of this special season!!
XO~Eden

Music Mondays!!

We’re starting a new weekly segment! Music Mondays!  You know we love music, and we’d love to share with you some of the music that moves us!  Since we’re getting started late this week (it’s Tuesday if you hadn’t heard) we’re going to post songs in honor of St. Patrick’s Day!

1.  From The Edge of the Deep Green Sea (cover by Oscar Isaac)

This amazing song by The Cure is one of my all-time favorites.  The lyrics are so beautifully tragic.  And it talks about the deep green sea, very fitting for St. Patrick’s Day! This is a ridiculously gorgeous cover by my dear friend, Oscar Isaac. Enjoy!

2. Green Eyes (Coldplay)

Coldplay first made me happy with a song about one of green’s parents, Yellow.  It wasn’t until a couple years later that I heard Green Eyes.  Love this song.  My mom and sister have green eyes and my blue eyes sometimes look green, so you know, can’t help but love the lyrics.  And Coldplay has my undying love.  I wish they were my friends.

3.  Green, Green Rocky Road (cover by Oscar Isaac for Inside Llewyn Davis Soundtrack)

If you haven’t heard the Inside Llewyn Davis Soundtrack yet, you must!  My favorites from the soundtrack are Fare Thee Well (both versions, Oscar and Marcus Mumford and Oscar solo), The Death of Queen Jane, and The Shoals of Herring.  Green, Green Rocky Road is also a great cover, and of course, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day!

4.  Greensleeves

Beautiful song we’re all familiar with, but did you know it was called Greensleeves?? It’s an old English folk tune that has had a variety of lyrics written to accompany it.

5. Give Me Some Hash

And lastly, did you see our St. Patty’s Day Parody of “Take Me To Church” by Hozier?  An ode to all things Irish, or at least all things that Americans think are Irish 🙂

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  Look for our Music Monday posts!!
